Pixies is an enchanting new card game by Pandasaurus. While it is a numbers and symbols game, you’ll very much be focused on the scenes of nature wonderlands that they bring to life with the artwork.
Was this game sent for review or self-purchased?: This game was kindly sent for review by Pandasaurus Games.

In two sentences, what do you do in the game: Each round starts with cards revealed in the center where players alternate choosing cards from to add to their play area grid. In a player grid, numbers cannot repeat and players earn points based on like symbols and color zones.

Have we played any other titles by this publisher?: Many, but this is the first we’ve reviewed from Pandasaurus. We were thrilled to work with them as we enjoy playing their games on a regular basis.

What was surprising about this title: The fantastical feel of the game was surprising. For being a light card game the whimsy is very strong. It is very captivating to study the cards as you play. While good artwork should always be appreciated, this game takes that to a new level.
How likely is this to return to the game table?: Extremely likely. This is a nice, light card game that we think would be perfect to start or wind down a game night. It doesn’t take long to learn, set up, or take down. It is light but not entirely luck based.

Game length: 30-40 minutes. Each round lasts about 10 minutes or so.
Language Barrier Playability: Great. Once you know the rules, you can play based on numbers and colors. They also utilize a system called ColorADD for inclusivity for players who are color blind.
Artwork: Phenomenal. The photographic woodland art has a magical realism to it. Each card is a true masterpiece that should be appreciated. The tiny eyes of each magical creature sparkle with life. Each character is made up of pieces of nature like pinecone and feathers thoughtfully placed to look almost real.
Quality: Excellent, strong card stock that will last. The box stays closed efficiently and holds all the cards well. This tiny card game should last through shelf and travel alike.

Strategy: Good. The strategy mostly lies in what card you decide to take and which card you decide to leave. Numbers cannot repeat on a player grid, so if you leave a player with a number they cannot use, it puts them at a disadvantage. Otherwise you may be able to just generally leave an opponent with a less advantage card. However, sometimes you have to choose a card that benefits your opponent because of luck of the draw.
Instruction Manual: Great. The manual is short with images and diagrams to assist in a quick start for gameplay. This is exactly what you want in a card game like this. There’s no ambiguity and it is straight forward.
Organization: Easy. As with many card games, it is a box with cards and instruction manual.

Final thoughts: Pixies is a very cute card game that can be enjoyed by a variety of groups and ages, for experienced and new gamers. It is quick, easy to learn and a nice appetizer for a game night. This game is appealing and is a nice addition to our collection that stands out with its artistic flair.
