Recently the Doomlings team sent us expansion content. We are starting with our review for Legends of Enderas!
Was this game sent for review or self-purchased?: This game was sent for review. We were also sent the base game for review awhile back.
In two sentences, what do you do in the game: Legends of Enderas utilizes the base game but adds two new elements. There are the addition of Treasure cards (bonus actions to your turn) and new types of Doomlings (Dinolings, Mythlings, Techlings, and Fuzelings).
Have we played any other titles by this publisher?: Yes we thoroughly have enjoyed the base game Doomlings. There are many expansions for the base game but it starts with a solidly great game. The expansions add value by changing up gameplay and adding more characters.

What was surprising about this title: It was surprising how many different types of cards are included in this expansion. You don’t have to worry about keeping track of what is what though, because the cards are self explanatory with clear symbolism and listed actions. This allows you to enjoy the game without it feeling cumbersome with all the new additions. However as you play you’ll intuitively get the sense of what type of Doomlings you want to gravitate to the most for your strategy. Attachments with Techlings, sacrificing Mythlings for their discard abilities and more.
How likely is this to return to the game table?: If we are playing Doomlings I think we’d probably switch between the different expansions and keep this one in the rotation. We’d probably keep it stored separately so we always have the choice to include it or not. It is fun but it does change the game feel in a very intentional way.

Game length: 40-60 minutes. Turns themselves are fairly short but as you’re flipping the Catastrophe cards there are some extra steps. If you have less than two treasure cards when they’re flipped you now also draw a treasure card. Treasure cards can also be played outside of a player’s turn so this can add to the length to resolve.
Language Barrier Playability: Not possible, just like the base game. You need the text on the cards and it would take a lot of time to translate where gameplay and strategy wouldn’t be possible.
Artwork: Doomlings are always so cute and every expansion introduces more cute characters that make drawing new cards exciting. The Dinolings juxtaposed with the Techlings have the cards span a lot of time within the character design (even though Techlings are ancient they have a futuristic feel to them). The Mythlings characters add fantasy to the set throwing even more into the mix. Then you have the Fuzelings which combine random elements from all of these and have multicolor cards. To be frank, it’s almost too much variety as it is all over the place with theme, but it plays just fine with all the types of cards. Then there are shiny cards within this expansion which are just very pretty to look at.
Quality: Great. The cards are made to last. The colors pop and the box is nice as well.

Strategy: You can strategize with both the Treasure cards and the Doomlings. Using treasure cards for extra actions outside your main turn can let you draw or play more cards most of the time. You don’t have to strategize with just one type of Doomling either, but collecting more Techlings can get you more points. Dinolings can give you unique actions but aren’t typically worth a lot of points themselves. Sometimes it’s luck of the draw but by using cards that let you select from the discard pile for example, you get more agency in what could be in your hand. Treasure cards also give a little bit of spice to strategizing but aren’t necessary to win the game.
Instruction Manual: Not as helpful as we were hoping. It just essentially tells you to mix and match this set however you’d like. It ended up working out fine because there are also symbol and turn explanation cards that serve as instructions for the more important play elements.
Organization: Good. Everything fits in the box without hassle.

Final thoughts: If you’re looking to add more types of Doomlings to your game or different types of strategy, this expansion is interesting to add to your Doomlings collection. It isn’t hard to add into your base game play and has a lot of adorable characters. It has a lot of content for an add on expansion. Legends of Enderas will lead you to World’s End with magic, dinosaurs, and microchips.
